The Giver

Today's class  involved a discussion and notes on Jonas' character, how he changed and what he changed into. A handout of jot notes on Jonas, and minor characters, was provided to students. Using those notes as a guide, along with the students working knowledge of the character, Jonas, students are to write on the following topic:

Characters often change as a result of their experiences or the circumstances they find themselves in. In an essay, discuss Jonas' initial character, what changes him, and how he changes to become a "different person" by the end of the novel. 5 paragraphs or longer.

The Giver

We are reading the novel, The Giver in class and at home. Some evenings students will have readings to do, and other evenings they are responsible for answering questions on the chapters they read. Every day we have class students should have their novels, notebooks, question sheets, and writing utensil. Please ensure that your child has the necessary materials for class!!!! It is becoming increasingly difficult with many students coming to class unprepared.

David

Using the handout I provided on the comprehension questions on the poem "David', p. 118 of SIGHTLINES do the assignment on writing an editorial. Follow the outline given to yo7u on "How to write an editorial." Situation... After Bobbie has returned home, others found out what he had done. There is a public debate whether Bobbie should go to jail for what he had done. YOU are the editor of a local newspaper. In an editorial, discuss your views on whether or not he made the right or wrong decision (to push David over the edge) Then you must say whether you think he deserves punishment or not. If so, what punishment should be given? Explain your reasons either way.

NOTE: This is an opinion piece, but it should be similar in length and depth as the Latimer editorial. You will be graded on this assignment so keep content and editing in mind. FOLLOW ALL GUIDELINES OF ASSIGNMENT RULES. THIS IS DUE ON THURSDAY APRIL, 18, DAY 8.
